The Brothers Mucham

So I finally finished my Mucha Emulation from a month ago. Sorry it took so long! I really enjoyed it and had a blast.

Ironically, my older brother Aaron, who is at school at Kennesaw State in Georgia (where I'm from) also chose to do a Mucha emulation for a duotone assignment. Also ironically, we both chose the subject of autumn. Go figure. Aaron did his completely in Illustrator.

Happy Thanksgiving and New Topic

Hey y'all. Hope everybody has a safe and fun week off. Keep working on Mucha if you want, or have some fun with the new topic. We're gonna go with a multi-themed topic to really stretch. Pick a Pilgrim or an Indian and go for it in the style of the great J.C Leyendecker. Here's some inspiration.

Winter

Still debating whether or not to keep adding to it...the Art Nouveau backgrounds are so complex! This one's inspired by Mucha's piece "Zodiac."
I think I may turn it into a cocoa label for Christmas presents :)

colour

So I drew a really quick sketch of myself today (well...me-ish) enjoying an almost winter day. Then I looked to mucha for the colour. - (His work is aesthetically marvelous, but he likes to do scantily clad seducers of babylon so I put clothes on me. :) I didn't spend a lot of time on this...my time is a sieve.

Sprite in Spring

Don't askquestions about the background. I was just too lazy to do anything else...

Autum

I did this one based off the Mucha painting "Easter Chimes Bring Nature." I liked that one and "Lorenzaccio" the best of his, I think. Amazing artist.

Nouveau topic

Allrighty...time for some good ol' fashioned emulation exercise.
Pick one (or more if you're feeling ambitious) season of the year and and go for it in the style of the amazing Alphonse Mucha.
Here are some examples of his work.

If you've still got a turkey to post, post 'em up! Just because there's a new topic doesn't mean you can't post an old one:)

WANTED: A stylus

The Dead Animal Museum

Late post, sorry. The Bean Museum is probably the most haunted place on campus besides the testing center. Where else do you get a bunch of dead heads?

The Great Pumpkin

Better late then never, right?
I didn't know about this until today and didn't have time to work on it until late so...deal with it. XP
ITS THE GREAT PUMPKIN CHARLIE BROWN!

Haunted House

And for this week...a landscape! In keeping with the spirit of Halloween, this week the topic is HAUNTED HOUSES! Well, haunted houses are characters too, I suppose...so whatever you feel like interpreting your house as, go for it!

Apparently Warner Bros announced at a press release yesterday that they will be making "The Life and Times of Kelly Loosli, a tormented soul."

Congrats Kelly! I knew you could do it

Bean Museum happiness

Can't make it to the zoo? Come see the fabulous wonder of the BYU campus, the Monte L. Bean museum(located in a special spot just behind the bell tower)...hehehe. I work up there, so I had to put in a little bit of an advertisement. Seriously, though, the Bean Museum is one of the best places to study animals, 'cause they conveniently hold real still for you:) These sketches I did were from their African animal exhibit, done with marker and the Pilot Precise V5 in about 20-30 minutes. Cheers.

Well here it is quick and dirty. These were done with a Pitt Pen from reference. It took me 20 min for the whole page.

African Animals

OK we are going for quick. Just sketch 1 page of any animal from Africa take 15 min or so. Don't even clean it up, just post it straight from the scanned image.
