The tear along the left is the actual page tear. I turned down the tolerance on the fill-bucket tool in Photoshop and since the scan was slightly grainy, it gave it a grainy "film-noir" look. I drew the lines coming off the character in thin black ink, but the fill bucket made a white outline around them that I liked.
